read the label What 16:1 means: sixteen kilograms of fruiting body go into every kilogram of this extract. That is why a 375 mg capsule carries a 6,000 mg whole-mushroom equivalent, the number printed on the label. Short answers below.

short answers

What does 16:1 mean?

Sixteen kilograms of dried reishi fruiting body are concentrated into one kilogram of extract. Each 375 mg capsule therefore holds the equivalent of 6,000 mg of whole mushroom, which is what the label states. It is the most concentrated extract we make.

What is reishi licensed for?

Health Canada licence 80108421 lists reishi as a source of fungal polysaccharides with immunomodulating properties and of antioxidants, and, in Herbal Medicine, as an adaptogen to help increase energy and resistance to stress (in case of mental and physical fatigue related to stress), as a liver tonic, and to support the immune system.

Fruiting body or mycelium?

Fruiting body only. The fruiting body is the mushroom itself. Mycelium is the root-like network it grows from, usually cultivated on grain, and mycelium products often contain that grain. There is no mycelium, grain or filler in a Purana capsule.

How and when do I take it?

One capsule once daily, with food. Many people take it with the evening meal.

What is in the capsule besides the extract?

The extract, and a hypromellose capsule shell (plant-derived, vegan). No fillers, flow agents or additives.

Can I take it with medications?

Talk with your health care practitioner before starting any supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication, or managing a health condition. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen, and stop use if a hypersensitivity or allergy occurs.

Natural health products licensed by Health Canada are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Benefits of reishi

Why take reishi?

- to support homeostasis and balance in the body
- to improve mood, sleep and fight stress
- to strengthen the immune system

Reishi is a fantastic supplement to support overall wellness and balance in the body. Reishi promotes homeostasis because of its adaptogenic properties. Adaptogens increase energy and resistance to stress by regulating a stable balance in the hypothalamic, pituitary, and adrenal glands. This includes mental stress such as anxiety, emotional stress such as depression and physical stressors such as fatigue or muscle soreness after a workout. All adaptogenic substances have a plethora of health benefits and can help people maintain optimal physical performance and resistance to physiological stressors.

Reishi supports your sleep cycle by regulating your cortisol levels throughout the day. Cortisol is a critical hormone that helps regulate glucose and blood pressure levels. Cortisol also regulates how you feel when you wake up in the morning by impacting serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine production. Reishi also promotes deep sleep and dreaming by reducing blood gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels and increasing glycine and serotonin levels in the body.

Reishi mushroom has been studied for its ability to have an effect on the nervous system. This is extremely important for anxiety sufferers because reishi can regulate GABA receptor sites. Studies have shown that reishi may diminish cravings and addiction because of this mechanism of action in the brain. Patients who suffer from alcoholism or substance abuse would especially benefit from reishi as the effects of the addiction might be reduced along with withdrawal symptoms. Reishi may also help patients who suffer from eating disorders because it can help regulate weight and appetite.

Reishi possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects and immune modulating properties. It to down-regulate the immune system when appropriate to avoid allergic reactions and inflammation caused by an overactive immune system. Reishi enhances the immune system by potentiating cells that help fight infection and disease. Reishi also stimulates granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor production which triggers your white blood cells to fight off infections.

Triterpenes, one of the compounds in Reishi mushrooms, have adaptogenic effects that support blood pressure management, help to regulate mood, and calm allergies and inflammation. Due to being a rich source of polysaccharides, reishi may aid in the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Research supports that reishi mushrooms have significant anti-inflammatory effects that are more effective than hydrocortisone. In addition to all this, reishi is anti-tumor, anti-viral and anti-biotic. It also balances blood sugar levels, supports liver health and protects DNA in our cells.

Reishi promotes longevity and supports the mind and body, promoting well-being. The benefits of reishi are vast and it is an exceptional mushroom to support your health!
