why cordyceps

  • 10× concentrated

ten kilograms of fruiting body in every kilogram of extract

  • 100% fruiting body

Cordyceps militaris, the mushroom itself, no mycelium or grain

  • cordycepin and adenosine

the nucleosides named on our label, cordycepin over 0.3%

  • Health Canada NPN 80118456

reviewed and issued by Health Canada; a source of fungal polysaccharides with immunomodulating properties

  • organic, non-GMO, vegan

    hypromellose capsule, nothing else added

in short

  • what it is

Cordyceps militaris fruiting body, dual extracted and concentrated ten times: 300 mg per capsule, a 3,000 mg dried-mushroom equivalent, over 0.3% cordycepin, plus 125 mg of lion's mane 1:1.

  • how it fits a day

One capsule with breakfast, or before a walk, a run or a training session. Same time each day, sixty days a bottle.

  • where it comes from

Cordyceps militaris is the cultivated, bright-orange cousin of the wild Himalayan cordyceps. We source the fruiting body alone, never the grain it starts on.

why Purana

A hand holding a bottle of Purana cordyceps 10:1 in a sunlit forest

Every Purana label says the same few things, and each one was a decision. Here is what they mean.

  • the mushroom, not the mycelium

100% fruiting body, sourced to our own standards for potency and purity. The grain a mushroom is grown on never makes it into a Purana capsule.

  • concentrated, then named

our 8:1, 10:1 and 16:1 dual extracts name their compounds, and every input batch is tested for potency and purity.

  • a Health Canada NPN for every formula

each product was reviewed by Health Canada, formula, manufacturing and claims, and issued its own Natural Product Number, printed on the label and linked on this page.

  • Canadian, and plain about it

organic, non-GMO and vegan, made in a GMP-certified facility for a Vancouver company. Inputs are tested for heavy metals, pesticides and microbes. Nothing added that a label would have to explain.

feature Purana cordyceps 10:1 a typical mushroom supplement
mushroom part 100% fruiting body (Cordyceps militaris) often mycelium grown on grain, grain included
concentration 10:1 dual extract, 3,000 mg dried-mushroom equivalent per capsule often 1:1, or an unconcentrated powder
extraction hot water and organic grain alcohol often hot water only, or none
actives named and tested beta-glucans over 30%, adenosine over 0.5%, cordycepin over 0.3% often no percentages and no named compounds
the capsule hypromellose, nothing else often fillers or flow agents
Health Canada NPN NPN 80118456 on the label look for an NPN on the label
supply per bottle 60 days often 30 days

“Typical” describes practices that are common across mushroom supplements sold in North America. It is not a comparison with any named brand, and products vary. Hold any label against these rows.

what to expect

Mushroom extracts work through slow biology. The habit is the product. Here is the shape of the first two months.

  1. day 1

    start with food

One capsule with breakfast, or before you train. Nothing to feel yet, and that is normal: the first days are about the habit, not a sensation.

  2. week 2

    the habit holds

Same time, same meal. By now the capsule is part of breakfast rather than a decision. Keep going.

  3. day 30

    the research window opens

Most human trials of these mushrooms run four to twelve weeks of daily use. Notice how your days are going.

  4. day 60

    one bottle, your own evidence

A full bottle is sixty days of daily use. Decide on that, not on a week. If it has earned its place, reorder or subscribe.

Effects are built, not switched on. This is guidance on consistency, not a promise of results.

the research

  • human trial

twelve weeks, healthy adults 50 to 75

In a twelve-week pilot trial, Cs-4, a Cordyceps sinensis preparation, raised metabolic and ventilatory thresholds in healthy adults aged 50 to 75. Our capsules are Cordyceps militaris.

what's inside

Cordyceps militaris fruiting body, 300 mg per capsule as a 10:1 dual extract (3,000 mg dried-mushroom equivalent, cordycepin over 0.3%), plus Hericium erinaceus 125 mg. Capsule: hypromellose.

read the label What 10:1 means: ten kilograms of fruiting body go into every kilogram of this extract. That is why a 300 mg dose carries a 3,000 mg dried-mushroom equivalent, the number printed on the label. Short answers below.

short answers

What does 10:1 mean?

Ten kilograms of dried cordyceps fruiting body are concentrated into one kilogram of extract. Each capsule's 300 mg of cordyceps therefore equals 3,000 mg of whole mushroom, which is what the label states.

Why is there lion's mane in my cordyceps?

Each capsule adds 125 mg of lion's mane 1:1 alongside the cordyceps. Both are on the NPN, and both are listed on the label.

Fruiting body or mycelium?

Fruiting body only. The fruiting body is the mushroom itself. Mycelium is the root-like network it grows from, usually cultivated on grain, and mycelium products often contain that grain. There is no mycelium, grain or filler in a Purana capsule.

How and when do I take it?

One capsule once daily, with food. Many people take it with breakfast or before training.

Does it have a Health Canada NPN?

Yes. NPN 80118456, issued by Health Canada after a review of the formula, the manufacturing and the claims. The NPN wording is: a source of fungal polysaccharides with immunomodulating properties.

What is in the capsule besides the extract?

The extract, and a hypromellose capsule shell (plant-derived, vegan). No fillers, flow agents or additives.

Can I take it with medications?

Talk with your health care practitioner before starting any supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication, or managing a health condition. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen.

Natural health products with a Health Canada NPN are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Benefits of cordyceps

Why take cordyceps?

- to increase energy naturally
- to improve athletic endurance
- to support a healthy libido
- to promote adrenal system balance

Cordyceps mushrooms, primarily Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris, are known for their unique ability to enhance energy, endurance, heart health, and libido. These fungi have been used in traditional Eastern medicine for centuries. Found naturally in the high mountain regions of China, these parasitic mushrooms grow on insect larvae, transforming them into a wellspring of health-enhancing compounds. Today, they are cultivated worldwide, ensuring sustainability and accessibility for their use as dietary supplements. The growing body of scientific research supports the myriad of health benefits offered by Cordyceps, making it a revered component of natural health practices.

One of the most celebrated benefits of Cordyceps is its ability to boost energy levels. This is attributed to its role in increasing the body's production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is essential for delivering energy to the muscles. This increase in ATP production is particularly beneficial for improving stamina and fighting fatigue. Studies, such as those conducted by Hirsch (Hirsch et al. 2017), have demonstrated the effectiveness of Cordyceps in enhancing cellular energy production, leading to improved physical performance and energy metabolism. This makes Cordyceps an excellent supplement for athletes and anyone seeking to elevate their energy levels naturally.

Cordyceps has been studied for its potential to enhance aerobic capacity and endurance, with its effects attributed to improved oxygen utilization and increased blood flow. Research, such as a study by Yi, Xi-zhen, and Jia-shi (2004), explores the impact of Cordyceps supplementation on VO2 max, an essential measure of aerobic endurance, in athletes. These findings suggest that Cordyceps can contribute to enhanced physical performance and longer exercise durations, making it an invaluable supplement for those looking to improve endurance

Cordyceps has a long history of use as an aphrodisiac in traditional Chinese medicine. Its libido-enhancing properties are thought to stem from its ability to increase testosterone levels and improve reproductive activity. Clinical studies, such as those by Huang et al. (2001), have shown that Cordyceps can effectively improve sexual function and desire, making it a natural remedy for addressing issues related to sexual health and performance.

Emerging research suggests that Cordyceps may also play a role in regulating blood sugar levels, offering potential benefits for individuals with diabetes or prediabetes. By influencing insulin sensitivity and enhancing glucose metabolism, Cordyceps extracts may help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. A study by Zhang et al. (2016) on diabetic mice showed that Cordyceps supplementation resulted in improved glucose tolerance and reduced blood sugar levels.

Cordyceps has been studied for its potential to protect and improve renal function, as well as its hepatoprotective effects that could benefit liver health. Its ability to reduce fibrosis and inflammation in the kidneys and liver makes it a subject of interest for treating kidney disease and liver conditions. Research by Y. Liu et al. 2015 suggests that Cordyceps can alleviate symptoms and improve outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Incorporating Cordyceps into your daily health routine offers a natural, adaptogenic solution to various modern health challenges. Whether you're looking to improve your physical performance, support your heart health, or enhance your sexual vitality, Cordyceps provides a harmonious blend of benefits that cater to a wide range of health objectives. Experience the transformative power of Cordyceps for yourself and embark on a journey towards a healthier, more vibrant life.
