  • how it fits a day

One 8:1 capsule and two 1:1 capsules with breakfast; a teaspoon of powder in coffee, a smoothie or a soup whenever you like.

  • where it comes from

One mushroom, Hericium erinaceus of the hardwood forests, sourced as fruiting body alone and offered three ways.

why Purana

A pouch of Purana lion's mane powder and a bottle of lion's mane 8:1 beside pieces of dried lion's mane

Every Purana label says the same few things, and each one was a decision. Here is what they mean.

  • the mushroom, not the mycelium

100% fruiting body, sourced to our own standards for potency and purity. The grain a mushroom is grown on never makes it into a Purana capsule.

  • concentrated, then named

our 8:1, 10:1 and 16:1 dual extracts name their compounds, and every input batch is tested for potency and purity.

  • a Health Canada NPN for every formula

each product was reviewed by Health Canada, formula, manufacturing and claims, and issued its own Natural Product Number, printed on the label and linked on this page.

  • Canadian, and plain about it

organic, non-GMO and vegan, made in a GMP-certified facility for a Vancouver company. Inputs are tested for heavy metals, pesticides and microbes. Nothing added that a label would have to explain.

what to expect

Mushroom extracts work through slow biology. The habit is the product. Here is the shape of the first two months.

  1. day 1

    start with food

The capsules with breakfast, the powder whenever you like. Nothing to feel yet, and that is normal: the first days are about the habit, not a sensation.

  2. week 2

    the habit holds

Same time, same meal. By now the routine is part of the morning rather than a decision. Keep going.

  3. day 30

    the research window opens

Most human trials of these mushrooms run four to twelve weeks of daily use. Notice how your days are going.

  4. day 60

    one bottle, your own evidence

A full set is sixty days of daily capsules, with the pouch to spare. Decide on that, not on a week. If it has earned its place, reorder or subscribe.

Effects are built, not switched on. This is guidance on consistency, not a promise of results.

what's inside

Hericium erinaceus fruiting body in three forms: 350 mg 8:1 dual-extract capsules (2,800 mg equivalent), 500 mg 1:1 hot-water-extract capsules, and a 1:1 hot-water-extract powder at 2.3 g per teaspoon. Capsules: hypromellose.

read the label Two kinds of extract in one kit: 8:1 puts eight kilograms of fruiting body into every kilogram of extract; 1:1 is hot-water extracted and not concentrated, which makes the whole fruiting body more bioavailable, gram for gram. Short answers below.

short answers

What is included and how long does it last?

Lion's mane 8:1 capsules (60), lion's mane 1:1 capsules (120) and a 250 g pouch of lion's mane 1:1 powder (108 servings). At one 8:1 capsule and two 1:1 capsules daily the capsules last 60 days; the pouch holds 108 teaspoon servings.

Why three formats of the same mushroom?

The 8:1 dual extract is concentrated eight times and concentrates compounds such as hericenones; the 1:1 is the whole fruiting body, hot-water extracted and not concentrated. Capsules give a fixed dose; the powder fits a kitchen ritual.

Do all three have Health Canada NPNs?

Yes. NPN 80108521 (8:1 capsules), NPN 80108430 (1:1 capsules) and NPN 80122180 (1:1 powder). The NPN wording is on each product page.

Can I take them with medications?

Talk with your health care practitioner before starting any supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication, or managing a health condition.

Natural health products with a Health Canada NPN are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Benefits of lion's mane

Why take lion's mane?

- to boost cognitive performance and neurological health
- to support a healthy cardiovascular system
- to strengthen the immune system

Lion's mane mushroom is a natural and caffeine-free way to support mental fatigue and brain fog, improving concentration and productivity. It helps with energy because it contains compounds that support cognitive function - called hericenones and erinacines. These compounds are metabolized by the body into nerve growth factor, a protein that plays an important role in brain health.

Nerve growth factor (NGF) helps to support your cognitive function as it strengthens connections between neurons (brain cells). It also supports the formation of new brain cells. Additionally, NGF helps to protect your brain from age-related damage.

Lion's mane mushroom is also a great way to support cardiovascular health. It contains compounds that help keep blood vessels healthy and functioning properly. These compounds are called polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are a type of carbohydrate that is known for their beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. They help to improve blood flow and reduce inflammation.

Lion's mane also supports the immune system. It contains compounds called beta-glucans, which are known for their immune-boosting properties. Beta-glucans have been shown to stimulate the immune system by activating certain white blood cells called macrophages, which help fight off infections. The immune-boosting properties of lion's mane mushroom may help you stay healthy during cold and flu season.

More about lion's mane

The scientific name of lion's mane mushroom is Hericium Erinaceus. Other common names include hedgehog mushroom and pom-pom blanc (French). Lion's mane is a type of edible fungus that grows on trees like beech, maple, and oak. It has a long, flowing tail that resembles a lion's mane, which is how it got its name. Lion's mane is native to North America and Europe, but can also be found in Asia and South America.
